Bob, If you've read any of my posts, I'm a firm believer in changing the oil, but I think every one thousand might be excessive. Your engine will always love you for an oil change but your pocket book won't. Like Bruce posted, time plays a big factor. If your not riding very much (say 1,000 mi every three months, then you probably do want to change your oil). I put on 2500 mi a month year around, so I change my oil once a month. And as I always say "use good motor oil and maintain the appropriate levels in your bile". It's the least expensive and best maintenance you can do to make your bike last. You can adjust your valves, change the exhaust, remove the white spacer, keep the bike clean all you want, but if you don't change your oil on a regular basis and maintain the level, it's all for nothing. There, I'm done preaching.
